Kolkata, Sep 30 (IANS) The all-party meeting on the Nano small car imbroglio, convened by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, remained inconclusive Tuesday with the Congress demanding more land for farmers from inside the Tata Motors project at Singur.
'If the state government can provide 70 acres to land losers, then this can be increased to 170 acres also. More land can be offered from the ancillary units and the state government should comply with the demand raised by the farmers,' senior Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee told reporters after emerging from the meeting.
'For the time being, we're not supporting the proposal placed by the government,' he said.
The all-party meeting was held at Writers' Buildings, the state secretariat, Tuesday evening and continued for more than 90 minutes.
All political parties, except the state's principal opposition force Trinamool Congress and the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI), participated in the dialogue.
'The state government has violated the accord on Singur signed in the presence of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi. I don't understand why the government would renege on the signed agreement and not fulfil farmers' demand,' Mukherjee asked.
'The Tata Motors' mother unit can be set up at Singur without the ancillary units inside the project area,' he said.
The Congress also gave a proposal, written by state Pradesh Congress president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, at the meeting and requested the state government to provide a 'land for land' package for the farmers.
