Amritsar, Sep 30 (IANS) The Border Security Force (BSF) Tuesday arrested 35 people, including 25 children and five women, when they were allegedly trying to cross the international border from India to Pakistan, a police official said.
The incident occurred in Punjab's border district of Tarn Taran, about 50 km from here.
District police chief H.S. Chahal said those arrested were members of five families who had sneaked into India from Myanmar and had reached here via West Bengal.
They have been booked under the Foreigners Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code, Chahal added.
While the arrested men were sent to police custody by a local court in Tarn Taran, the women and children had been lodged in jail.
The group was apprehended in the early hours Tuesday by the BSF personnel in Khalra sector of the border belt
