Even though Saturday’s blast sent shock waves in the Taj city, life has been normal for people in the area who has maintained calmness day after the explosion. Uttar Pradesh police has detained four people for questioning and the security around the tourist city has been beefed up.
The low intensity blast that rocked Agra’s Jai Hospital on Saturday evening (5.40 pm) left at least six people injured. As per initial police reports, a crude bomb was kept under a seat in the reception area of the hospital.
Minutes after the explosion, police had immediately cordoned off the area and begun rescue and salvage operations. All injured were immediately admitted in the hospital itself.
Officials from anti-terrorist squad and forensic experts have also been rushed to the blast site to gather possible leads into the incident. Barely 10 days after the bomb blast at the Delhi High Court that killed 15 people; this is the second blast in the north Indian region.
As per initial probe, Agra’s Inspector General of police told reporters that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used for the blast. A battery and wire were recovered from the blast site. However, the investigating agency is yet to confirm this as a terror attack even though they have not completely ruled this out.
Agra is famous for the historic monument of love, the Taj Mahal, which attracts millions of tourists every year. Considering the fact that the hospital is just 3 km away from the iconic monument, stringent security measures have been placed for the safety and security of citizens and travellers.
