Rice farming in the upswing in India

New Delhi, Sep 16(ANI): Rice has been sown in 376.77 lakh hectare as per data received from states as on today, the Union Agriculture Ministry has said.

 

"It represents an increase of 33.55 lakh hectare over last year's acreage on this date. Higher area coverage has been reported from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu," the ministry said in a statement.

 

Oilseeds have been sown in 178.14 lakh hectare, 5.61 lakh hectare more than last year.

 

Higher area coverage has been reported in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

 

Coarse cereals have been sown in 196.68 lakh hectare. Higher area coverage has been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Cotton has been sown in 119.69 lakh hectare. Higher area coverage has been reported from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. (ANI)
