Buxar (Bihar), Sep.10 (ANI): Several residents in Buxar district, Bihar, set ablaze a police vehicle after the murder of a car mechanic only a few yards away from the police station.
Hundreds of locals gathered and pelted stones at the local police station in Naya Bhojpur area of before setting a police jeep on fire.
"He had no enmity with anyone. It is so unfortunate that even though the police station was a few meters away, a murder took place. Nobody came to know and we got to know today morning," said Naseem Khan, relative of Jaheed Khan, the victim.
The body of Jaheed Khan was found in the wee hours of Saturday.
The murder angered the locals and they have demanded that the police station be shifted elsewhere, as they said that such an unfortunate incident occurred despite the presence of a police station.
"When we received the information and came here, then we were told that the locals came to know about the murder of a mechanic named Jaheed at around 6:30am (local time). Once the post mortem reports are out then we will get to know what time the murder took place last night. The people are angry with the police officers of the area that on being informed they did not take any action. The locals together burned a police vehicle and pelted stones at the officers. We are trying to talk to the locals and get the primary information so that we can make some headway in the investigation," said Neelam Kumar Singh, Sub-Divisional Police Officer.
The mob blocked National Highway 84.
Jaheed Khan was shot dead late on Friday (September 09).
Locals said that the incident is unusual as the police station was only 50 yards away from the place where unidentified assailants murdered Jaheed Khan.
Police said that the investigation is in progress and would be able to confirm the cause of the murder once it is completed. (ANI)
