Guwahati, Sep 9 (ANI): With the situation improving in Assam, multinational organizations are now venturing into the region to tap the state's huge potential. In tune with this, a five-day long estate expo was held here recently to attract realty industry giants to brief people on affordable housing.
The expo was organized by the Assam Real Estate and Infrastructure Developers' Association (AREIDA), and a leading Hindi newspaper of the region.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who inaugurated the event, laid emphasis on development of other towns other than Guwahati.
"I want to provide affordable housing to every one, because if we are not able to do so, there will be a lot of social tension and we want inclusive growth for our people," said Gogoi.
The participants at the expo appeared to be full of enthusiasm.
"This is one of the best opportunities to display our products in the short platform. The builders and buyers, everybody is coming here so people are interested in all the products," said Rajesh, a participant.
Seventy-six builders and developers participated in this event and exhibited over 250 projects that aim to create more 20,000 homes.
Experts find India's Look East Policy to be the main trigger behind this growth and believe it has the potential to attract more investments.
Both Centre and the Assam Government are making all possible efforts to promote Guwahati as a hub by improving connectivity.
According to the Guwahati Development Department, the construction work in the city has gone up by 42 percent in the past three years.
The Tata Group had laid the foundation of Vivanta Taj, the first five-star hotel of Guwahati, in 2010.
Guwahati has been transformed into one of the most happening places in the country in the last five years.
Shopping malls, luxury clubs and hotels, slimming centers and fast food chains have mushroomed all over the city, which will need nearly 8-10 million square feet of space in next 5 years for shopping malls and stores. This development will also result in creation of employment in the region. (ANI)
