Himachal teacher donates national award prize money for deprived children

New Delhi, Sep 5 (ANI): The Principal of Dalhousie Public School in Himachal Pradesh, Dr. G.S. Dhillon, who was presented national award by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil for his outstanding contribution to the field of education at the Vigyan Bhawan here today donated the cash prize of Rs.25, 000 to create education infrastructure for the deprived children of slums.

 

Dr. Dhillon made a bank draft of the cash prize of Rs.25, 000, which he received from President Patil and deposited the same in the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. He showed kind-heartedness of a teacher when he donated the entire cash prize for the children of slum areas.

 

Dr. Dhillon was presented the best Principal's award by the HRD Ministry in 2007, and the school has been honoured with the Computer Literacy Excellence award in 2008 by the Information and Technology Ministry.

 

While with the army, he was awarded the Sena Sewa Medal. He is the President of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society and Patron of the National Rifle Association, District Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

 

Having taken premature retirement from the army in 1986, Capt. Dhillon took charge of Dalhousie Public School, Dalhousie, as the Principal. This school is ranked as amongst the finest residential schools of India.

 

He was commissioned into the second battalion of 'The Parachute Regiment' Special Forces in May 1974.

 

Dr. Dhillon has also been awarded the 'distinguished educationist' award for the state of Himachal Pradesh by 'Himotkarsh', which is an NGO. He is on the Board of Governors of 'Bharat Vikas Parishad', which is a very well reputed NGO. (ANI)
