Imphal, Aug 29 (ANI): Fuel prices have soared up due to the 28-day economic blockade in Imphal over a demand for the conversion of Sadar Hills into a full-fledged district
The blockade by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) since August 1 has led petrol to be sold at rupees 120 per litre in the black market instead of Rs. 62, while the prices of vegetables and other essential commodities has also gone up
Residents are facing the brunt of an ongoing economic blockade. Fuel supply in the region has also been hit.
Long lines measuring over a kilometer of two-wheelers and other vehicles were seen outside petrol pumps on Sunday, where gasoline is being rationed.
Reports say the state cabinet has met twice over the past few weeks to resolve the issue.
Several Naga organisations have opposed the creation of new Sadar Hills District as also includes some Naga-settled areas. (ANI)
