Dehradun, Aug 6 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned Balakrishna, a close aide of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, for around seven hours here on Friday in connection with a fake passport case.
Balakrishna has been alleged to acquire an Indian passport with fake educational documents submission.
The case was registered against him under section 12 of the Indian Passport Act followed by section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).
"The interrogation was conducted from 11:30 in the morning till 7:00 in the evening. Before also a similar long interrogation had taken place. In any criminal investigation, all the interrogations are conducted keeping in mind the allegations made in the FIR. And as far as I know this is a documented case," said Pravin Seth, counsel for Balakrishna.
"I believe there was no need for such a long interrogation today. It could have been a way to harass him or maybe they (the CBI) thought a prolonged interrogation might lead on to some findings," he added.
Seth further said that they would not be going to appeal for any harassment charges in the High Court, as they were ready for any kind of cooperation with the authorities.
Balakrishna was also supposed to be present in Uttarakhand's Nainital High Court for the submission of his passport, but could not personally do it because of this interrogation procedure.
The passport was submitted through another counsel naming Rajendra Dobhal in the Nainital High Court.
The CBI had earlier issued a lookout notice against Balakrishna after it was discovered that his degrees issued from a University in Varanasi were fake. (ANI)
