AITA forms enquiry panel

The All India Tennis Association (AITA), in the wake of match fixing matter following recent reports in the media, has formed a committee to look into any occurrence of match-fixing in the earlier period and to establish a code of conduct for tennis persons in the country.

According to AITA, the committee will consist of Sarabjit Singh, IPS, Akhtar Ali and V.K. Batra. The committee will look into cases going back to 1994 to recommend necessary action.

Gaurav excels

Gaurav Kumar picked up a five-wicket haul to help Gush Cricket Club beat Noida Cricket Academy by eight wickets in the quarterfinals of the Nishant memorial cricket tournament at the Noida Stadium.

The scores: Noida Cricket Academy 161 in 34.1 overs (Digvijay Rawat 74, Sandeep Kumar 45, Gaurav Kumar five for 33) lost to Gush CC 165 for two in 30.2 overs (Himanshu Chawla 50 not out, Dibyansh Khera 43).

Indian tennis teams for Asia-Oceania World Junior championship

The AITA has announced the under-14 boys’ and girls’ teams to represent the country in the Asia-Oceania World Junior championship to be played at Shenzhen, China, from April 14 to 20.

The teams: Boys: Ronit Bisht, Digvijay Singh Mehta and R. Ramkumar.
Girls: Natasha Palha, Prarthana Thombre and Vaidehi Bhagwat.

Neo Sports to broadcast Davis Cup and Fed Cup

Neo Sports will broadcast India’s away matches and other select World Group matches of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup tennis events, as per a deal signed with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for four years from 2008 to 2011.

According to the press statement, the channel will also show Sony Ericsson WTA Tour events during the same period. It will also be the exclusive broadcast partner for all top events of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in the Indian sub-continent for the next four seasons.

Cavalry Black in semis

Cavalry Black defeated Jindal/Dracon 7 goals to 6 1/2 in the quarterfinals of the Rao Raja Hanut Singh Cup 10-goal polo tournament here on Thursday. In other quarterfinals matches, Jaipur Polo Company pipped Cavalry White 7-6 while Cavalry Red outclassed Elevation ‘B’ 10-4 to move into the semi-finals of the tournament.
