May 30: Till now Delhi’s tallest and historic building – Qutab Minar, has been the epicenter of travelers curiosity and attention but now this hundreds of years old monument will have to face the competition. From December 2008 its position as the tallest structure in the city will be replaced by a 28-floor building in the heart of the national capital on Minto Road, New Delhi railway station.
The building is under construction and is expected to surpass the height of national capital’s historic identity, Qutab Minar, by more than 29 meters. This building will house the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s new headquarters.
Whopping amount of Rs 565 crore is expected to be invested in the constructing of the five blocks of the building. Offices of the MCD will run in two of them while others will be rented to private companies. Five blocks of the building are expected to be constructed for Rs 565 crore. Construction authority expects rent of Rs 40 crore a year.
Regarding its location in the heart of Delhi, many apprehensions have been related to the Delhi’s latest and tallest landmark but the officials have assured that there is nothing to worry.
Talking to a news channel, the engineer in chief MCD, Ravi Dass said, “We will bring in a new traffic plan around the area where the civic centre will be located.
''We have taken special care of the congestion. Since the civic centre is located around the station, traffic volumes is bound to increase but we will widen the approach road here and also work out a new traffic plan for the adjoining areas,'' he reportedly said.
Till now the building is a year away of standing on its own. When the building will open, things will definitely change in one of the highly congested areas of Delhi. If Qutab Minar is the witness of architectural perfection and medieval history, new building will present contemporary look.
