Keeping the current violence unleashed by activists of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in which the Sena supporters thumped North Indian people and ransacked shops and taxies, the Centre has asked the Maharastra government to take stern action against the culprits and to see that no individual and group is intimated.
The Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil in a statement expressed his concern over the incident that literally attacked the very essence of Indian constitution and the core values of the country. He has said that people of Mumbai would not allow the peace and harmony of their city to be disturbed. He also asked the state administration to provide protection to people who may require it.
The statement released is read as: “Mumbai is the financial and industrial capital of India, built by people of Maharashtra and the citizens of India, coming from all parts of the country. It represents the glory and the strength of united India. People from Maharashtra and all parts of the country are living here and have enjoyed prosperity and faced adversity together. Mumbai has always been a symbol of unity, which in no case should be disturbed or allowed to be disturbed and damaged.
Divisive politics for personal gains
Mumbai apart from being the core of Indian film industry is the centre of livelihood for thousands of people coming from different parts of the country indulging in various occupations. But the whole peace and harmony of the city ruined when the non-Maharashtrians attacked by the Raj Thackeray the chief of MNS’s blind followers, who forgot that their deed was disrespecting the Mumbai culture itself.
No doubt this is just only a section of people who shaped up such violent incident in the name of community, caste, language or religion and these are only to gain political mileage but the people of Maharastra will no case allow such misdeeds that hurts the image of the state.
It is ironical that people like Raj Thackery are roaming free in Mumbai city when he has publicly accepted his bigotry nature. With this incident he has only made a successful attempt to sink his own political career.
Mumbaikars or Maharashtrians must not be and can’t be provoked with such hatred feelings that ultimately tarnish the image of our nation that is secular and equitable.
