New Delhi, July 7 (ANI): Congress lawmaker K. Keshav Rao on Thursday said they will not retreat from their stand until their demand for creation of a separate Telangana state is fulfilled.
"We, on behalf on Congress, and I also have the mandate from other friends to say that unless Telangana is delivered, there is no question of any compromise on our part. So, let there be no doubt that there be no questions on that. We are prepared for helping the process," said Rao, the Congress MP from Telangana region.
Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday said that there was no move to impose President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh.
He also said that the Congress is upset about the bulk resignations and hopes to "engage with" its politicians from Telangana region through more discussions in Delhi.
He said that he hoped that the campaign for Telangana would not lead to breakdown of law and order.
Earlier, Chidambaram had said the government is yet to take a final decision on the separate statehood issue.
"The Central Government"s view will be made known after the consultation process is over. We have to bring everyone on board. There is a strong view of large number of people. We are yet to take a final decision," he added.
The four-decade-old demand for Telangana, which is to be carved out of the economically less developed part of Andhra Pradesh, gathered momentum last year after the Congress-led UPA Government accepted the demand in principle.
Several protests and shutdowns had brought Andhra Pradesh to a near halt in 2009 and 2010, as pro-Telangana activists persisted with their demand. (ANI)
