New Delhi, July 7 (ANI): Madhusudan Ganapathi will take over as the next Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs. He will succeed Vivek Katju, who superannuates on August 31, 2011.
The decision to appoint Ganapathi was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Thursday.
Ganapathi is a member of the Indian Foreign Service, 1975 batch.
The ACC also approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs to Sindhushree Khullar, currently Secretary, Department of Sports, for a period of three months.
It said that Khullar would hold additional charge till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) also announced the appointment of Shashi Kant Sharma as the country's next Defence Secretary.
Sharma, a member of the Indian Administrative Service (Bihar, 1976 batch), is presently Secretary, Department of Financial Services. He will assume charge from current Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar on August 1, 2011.
Sharma has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Defence, in the rank and pay of Secretary, with immediate effect and till he takes over as Defence Secretary;
Shekhar Aggarwal, a member of the Indian Administrative Service (Uttar Pradesh, 1977 batch), who is presently Special Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, will take over as Secretary (Defence Production) in place Raj Kumar Singh, who has become Home Secretary. (ANI)
