Joshi not allowed to table 2G scam report at Public Accounts Committee meet

New Delhi, Tue, 28 Jun 2011 ANI

New Delhi, June 28 (ANI): Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi failed to table his 2G scam report before a new committee on Tuesday, as members led by Congress' Jayanthi Natarajan would not permit it.

PAC members brought up a point of order for not allowing Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi to table the report.

Congress members indicated that they would not allow the new panel to take up the 2G scam as a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is already looking into it.

Joshi had drafted a report that was sharply critical of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and then the Finance Minister P Chidambaram, among others.

In the report, the PAC had made shocking observations, questioning the officials of the Prime Minister's Office on their dealings with issues related to the allocation of 2G spectrum.

The report also indicted former telecom minister A. Raja for misleading Prime Minister Dr. Singh in 2008.

The telecom corruption scandal, which may have lost India 39.57 billion dollars in potential revenue, is the biggest of several graft cases to emerge during the second term of Prime Minister Dr. Singh.

Raja was forced to resign from the Union Cabinet last year after the CAG faulted him for undervaluing spectrum to favour companies, who were largely ineligible for 2G spectrum. (ANI)
