Srinagar, June 25(ANI): Jammu and Kashmir government has upgraded the emergency ward of the state-run Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (S.M.H.S) hospital in Srinagar to provide all facilities to the patients.
The emergency ward of the hospital has been upgraded with the support of the state government, thus providing relief to the patients and the visitors.
The S.M.H.S hospital was in a dilapidated condition till recently.
The problems confronting the hospital included overcrowding, lack of funds, untrained support staff of peons and ward boys.
The old emergency ward had few beds, which led to suffocation and overcrowding among the patients.
The present ward consists of basic facilities. It has five operation theatres, X-ray labs, Ultra sound and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Medical Superintendent of the hospital Muneer Ahmad Masoodi said approximately 80 million rupees were invested for the construction of the new emergency ward.
"Around 95 percent of the construction work has been completed and new operation theatres have been built. The essentialities of the operation theatres have been made available. Autoclave machines, surgery tables have been provided at the operation theatres. We are hoping that the operation theatre would become fully functional within a week. A new bed lift has been built and it will be available for all the three floors (of the hospital). It's a new mechanical lift," Masoodi said.
"Earlier two-three patients were accommodated on a single bed as the victims of bomb blasts were also admitted in this hospital. This resulted in overcrowding. The hospital did not have fans and there was lack of ventilation. The upgradation of the hospital has provided relief to the patients and to those who accompanied them. Earlier there were no bathrooms for the patients and for the visitors. The patients and the visitors can take a sigh of relief after it (hospital) has been upgraded," the local from Srinagar Altaf Ahmad said. (ANI)
