New Delhi, June 23(ANI): The Central government in two back-to-back meetings with Dima Hasao Daogam Nunisa faction (DHD-N) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland Progressive faction (NDFB-P) has extended the ceasefire for another six months.
The previous Suspension of Operation Agreement between the Centre and the two outfits will expire on June 30.
Dilip Nunisa and Govinda Basumatary represented Dima Hasao Daogah and National Democratic Front of Bodoland respectively.
Whereas the Shambu Singh, Joint Secretary Northeast, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Jishnu Baruah, Home Commissioner, Assam, represented the Centre and Assam respectively.
Both parties discussed issues like ground rule grievances and time frame for peace talks.
"The ceasefire has been extended for another six months. We are also positively taking our discussion forward with the Centre," Basumatary said.
Nunisa added: "We have not changed any of our demands that we put forward to the government in 2004 and Centre is really keen on solving the issue."
The pro-talk faction of NDFB had announced a unilateral ceasefire in 2004 signing a tripartite agreement with the state and the Centre in 2005 whereas a ceasefire agreement was signed between the DHD leadership and the Union Government on January 1, 2003. By Devesh Gupta (ANI)
