Dera Bassi (Punjab), Sept 28 (ANI): Five low grade locally made live bombs were diffused in Dera Bassi in Punjab on Sunday.
According to Punjab police the bombs were made of plastic containers and cardboard and contained potassium nitrate and charcoal, and were found in an agricultural plot.
A simple fuse card followed by slight fire could have exploded the bomb.
The bombs were not connected to any detonator or a remote control device. But they could have proved lethal if exploded.
"These were locally made bombs. Three of them were made of plastic and two were made of cardboard. They were filled with some explosive material and cycle balls were put in them. They were low grade bombs and were neither attached with a detonator nor a remote control device," said J. S. Aulakh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohali.
The police sprang into action after they got information from the villagers who spotted these bombs in a field.
"I was going to the fields in the morning when I saw something looking like a cricket ball but it had a pin. That aroused a doubt in my mind that it could be a bomb and I informed the police. I saw three bombs at around 9:00-9:30 in the morning," said Satinder Singh, an eyewitness.
The diffused bombs have been sent to forensic laboratory in Chandigarh for further investigations.
Security across the nation has been tightened following the recent serial blasts in New Delhi which killed 23 people and injured more than hundred. (ANI)
