New Delhi, May 26 (ANI): The Supreme Court today refused to direct the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to conduct a fresh All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), which got involved in a controversy following question paper leaks at several centers.
A vacation bench of Justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad dismissing the petition observed that around 10 lakh students have appeared for the examination and they would suffer because of a fresh examination.
Some students had filed the petition in the apex court after they could not appear for the test, which was rescheduled after leakage of questions.
The students moved the Supreme Court challenging a Delhi High Court order, which had on May 18 refused to stay the AIEEE results for the candidates, who appeared for it on two different occasions this month following paper leaks at several centers.
The examination, which was conducted by the CBSE on May 1, was delayed by three hours following a paper leak.
The examination was scheduled at 9.30 a.m., but was rescheduled to begin at 12 noon on the same day.
The government had issued a notification on May 2 for holding the AIEEE on May 11 for the candidates, who could not take it on May 1 due to confusion arising out of the leakage of the question paper.
Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force later arrested a man in connection with the leak of the AIEEE question papers that affected more than 1.2 million students across the country. (ANI)
