New Delhi, May 13 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Friday congratulated the incumbent chief of Assam Tarun Gogoi for an evident consecutive third term victory in the state polls.
Digvijay Singh said Gogoi brought peace and stability in the region under his tenure.
"Tarun Gogoi has been a very successful Chief Minister, a person who has governed the state with compassion, with sensitivity, and has brought peace and progress to the state of Assam. My heartiest congratulations to him and his team," he said.
"The multi-ethnic, multi-religious diversity in Assam is not easy to comprehend to other people, but Tarun Gogoi symbolises that kind of unity, which the Congress has always been standing for," he added.
Singh also thanked the voters for supporting the Congress.
" I would like to congratulate the people of these five states who have elected Congress. We will be forming a government in four out of the five states. And we hope that we will be able to provide a good government," said Singh.
Congress is leading in 79 of 126 assembly seats in Assam. Congress ally in the outgoing coalition government, Bodoland Peoples Front , is also leading in 14 seats. (ANI)
