Guwahati University gets community campus radio centre

Guwahati, Mar 21 (ANI): Guwahati University recently launched the northeast's first community campus radio called 'Radio Luit' to spread awareness, entertain and to highlight community issues among people.

 

Named after the River Brahmputra, Radio Luit 90.8 FM, will provide a wonderful opportunity to students to showcase their talent and also avail its facilities to learn as well.

 

"We have launched the radio centre on the Guwahati University campus, I hope the region would be benefited in a great way in the field of education" said Sreedher Ramamurty, the director of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia, adding that more such community radio centres would revolutionize the way of learning.

 

"There are so many talented students in the campus aspiring to become RJs.

 

This is the platform through which we want to give an opportunity to all the students those who want to make it program or a career as radio journalism," Kandarpa Das,Director, Distance Education, Guwahati University

 

The students in association with residents of the city will initially produce a daily programme highlighting issues related to education, agriculture, entertainment and problems relating to the community that will be broadcast in the evening.

 

"We are happy to get an opportunity to showcase out talent. While working at the Radio Station we will learn a lot," said Meghali, a student.

 

Community radio in India has many advantages over AIR and private FM. Programmes, nearly always in the local languages deal with local issues involving ordinary people so that villagers and townspeople understand what they are about. (ANI)
