Controversies and ire of Muslim community continue to destroy Salman Rushdie’s life after his famous novel Satanic Verses. Recently after Godrej hosted him at Mumbai, All India Ulema Council slapped a directive to all Muslim community to boycott Godrej’s product until the Chairperson Adi Godrej make an apology for the same.

Mehmood Daryabandi, General Secretary of the Ulema council reported to have sent a letter to Adi Godrej asking apology and assurance of not repeating the same mistake in near future, till then all Muslim will continue boycotting the products.

“We hold Godrej in high regard for his contribution not only in the business world but to the country as well. We have humbly asked him to apologise for associating with a man who has hurt our sentiments,” said Rais Shaikh of the Nyay Andolan.

While he was very much at ease here at Mumbai making news with his rendezvous with the sultry actress Riya Sen this episode has marred his life once again. He cut short his visit and returned to London after he was told of a possible law and order snag if he continues to stay here.

Earlier too his visit to this city has been protested by Muslim community but controversies died every time after he left the city.

Satanic Versus became the foremost reason for the agitation against him, though India became the first country to ban this book in 1989 but Ayotollah Ruhallah Khomeini issued fatwa against him, since he died with out revoking the fatwa it still continue hanging on his head.

The book which became one of the most famous books in the history of literature has been alleged of contravening Islam for its obscene and blasphemous content.

“The book that is worth killing people and burning flags for is not the book that I wrote," Salmon Rushdie said after Satanic Verses created strong reaction from Muslim community.

Salman had strongly defended the content of his book saying, “It isn’t actually about Islam but about migration, metamorphosis, divided selves, love, death, London and Bombay.”

Last year a major violent protest took place in all over world after Rushdie was awarded Knighthood on Queen Victoria’s birthday.

Though Rushdie has been criticised for not being sensible and responsible enough dealing with the religious sentiment of Islam, but he has also been credited to have written an ambitious novel while describing his writing ability.

Religion..?

Religious sentiment has become the most vulnerable thing on this earth; it has become so meek that it can be infuriated with just anything.

No religion teaches to mar other life, it is the religion which shaped humanity and is in dock every now and then. Freedom of expression is a paradox now like the interpretation of religion itself; people with different mantle calibre interpret it and the blind follower follows.

And if religion is the only thing that is written on the wall then why we can’t have Jehad against terrorism, why we can’t have Dharma Yudha against injustice and poverty, why we can’t have Holy War against rape and molestation?

Anais Nin said, “When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow.”

Now the time has come for the people to understand the secret selfish motive behind the enticement by some of its religious leaders, who survive on the innocent blood of people by emotionally blackmailing and provoking them for sacrifice for their religion. These religious leaders have nothing to do with religion except playing with sentiments of the people of its community.
