School mentor arrested for raping blind student

A 20-year-old blind student was allegedly raped by one of her teachers, who is also visually impaired, arrested on the complaint of the victim by the Timarpur Police on Wednesday.

The victim is studying at the Vinayak Netraheen Kalyan Samaj, a school cum hostel, run by an NGO at Sant Nagar in Timarpur for the last eight months; the Timarpur police said she is actually the inhabitant of Uttam Nagar.

The visually impaired girl accused her teacher, Rajendra Prasad, 38 for raping her on January 11, who forced himself up her in the storeroom of the school, when she was passing by there, raped her and threatened to face dire consequences on the disclosure of incident. The police said the medical examination has confirmed the rape.

As per the police, the victim also accused the rapist had molested her earlier on several occasions.

A police officer said, “The girl claims he molested her in December, inside the hostel. The victim stopped taking classes from him but resumed after reassurance from his wife that nothing of that sort would happen again.”

A case of rape and molestation has been registered against the teacher, who has been arrested,” said Devesh Srivastava, DCP (North).

After the incident girl stopped attending classes but resumed on the request of the Prasad’s wife, who is also visually impaired.

After a fight between two women in the hostel a police official said, “On Tuesday she somehow managed to come out of the hostel and called her sister to inform her about the incident. The sister then approached another NGO, called Jagriti Mahila Samiti, located in west Delhi's Raja Garden area.”

The sisters with the help of NGO rushed to Timarpur police station and lodged complaint, resulted in the arrest of the accused. The victim was rushed to the medical examination, which also confirmed the rape, said a police official.

The accused Rajendra Prasad actually belong to Lumbani in Nepal and was working as a secretary to the NGO, Vinayak Mahila Kalyan Samiti.

The police are also verifying whether similar incident had earlier been occurred in the blind school.
