Tarun Sangha, National in DSA semis

Riding on Sudip Banik’s 75th minute decisive goal spirited Tarun Sangha scored a close 2-1 win over Hindustan FC to book a place in the semifinals of the Sail-ONGC Delhi Soccer Association’s senior division open club football league championship played at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Sunday.

Sangha went ahead in the very first minute through Prabir Ray but the score was equalised six minutes later. Both the team went into the second-half after squandering several opportunities.

Last year’s runners-up Indian National FC also confirmed its berth in the last four when it drew 1-1 with City FC in the day’s other encounter.

National got into lead in the 44th minute through Trilok Singh Bisht before City restored parity nine minutes before the final whistle through P. K. Thing.

Vikram, Nicha gets top billing

Vikram Reddy and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai have been given the top billing in the ITF Grade II junior tennis tournament starting at the NTA Complex in Gurgaon from Monday.

Delhi’s Dhara on a roll

Delhi’s Dhara Gupta came up with the biggest upset of the opening round when she scored an upset win over IM Vikramaditya Kamble here on Sunday. Dhara has been on a roll for quite some time, as she defeated seasoned IM Anup Deshmukh in the first round of Commonwealth championship here last month.

Simi Mehra emerges winner

Simi Mehra carded the best round of the day, a four-over 76, with an aggregate of nine-over 225 to win the seventh leg of the DLF women’s Pro-golf tour at the Army Environmental Park and Training Area here.

Simi was nine strokes ahead of the second-placed Nalini Singh (234), who shot 79 in the third and final to prod ahead of the jittery Irina Brar (239).

Delhi’s Neha Aggarwal had to fight it out with Priti Mokashi as he got the better off her opponent 7-11, 11-6, 11-13, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7, while Railways’ Omkar Torgalkar overcame Petroleum’s Mohit Verma 11-5, 4-11, 11-3, 10-12, 11-7, 11-9 to make it to the quarterfinals in their respective section of the National Ranking table tennis championship (North Zone) played at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Gymkhana here on Sunday.
