Can Asus ZenFone 3 Take An Edge Over Samsung & Apple Devices?

Every smartphone company around the globe is looking to expand its horizons and take on the bigger and more trusted brands in the market.

Following the likes of many of its counterparts, Asus had first launched its elite ZenFone series in the year 2014, which specifically targeted budget smartphone demand in the Indian market. They then launched the second series of the same model, but unfortunately, couldn't reap the same success as the first one thanks to the growing competition in the market.

And now Asus is back with its third generation of devices and for the same the company has some different plans. With the ZenFone 3 range, Asus wants to surpass the excellence as crafted by Samsung and Apple devices. But how far Asus has succeeded in doing the same is yet to be decided.

Let us check out the Asus ZenFone3 in detail to understand if it has the potential to withstand consumer demands and mounting competition.

The company released various models under its ZenFone 3 generation that is: ZenFone 3 (ZE520KL) for Rs. 21,999; ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) for Rs. 27,999; ZenFone 3 Ultra (ZU680KL) for Rs. 49,999; the ZenFone 3 Laser (ZC551KL) for Rs. 18,999, the first-class model, ZenFone 3 Deluxe (ZS570KL), for Rs. 49,999 which also has a Special Edition model available for Rs. 62,999.

Here, we will be studying the Asus ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL), which is available in Shimmer Gold, Sapphire Black, Moonlight White and Aqua Blue.

Look and feel

This Asus model has 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass on both sides that adds to its elegant appeal. Then there is the signature concentric-circle prototype at the back which is dubbed as 'Zen design'. On the front, the glass is held by metal frame which makes the device sturdy. On the other end, its rounded sides provide the much needed grip.

The smartphone sports 5.5-inch display with its earpiece, selfie camera and standard sensors. It also has capacitive Back, Home, as well as the Recent buttons placed below display. It's 7.69mm thick and weighs 155 grams. As thereis a glass covering on both sides, the device does become a bit slippery which is why single handed use won't be very comfortable. Its 5.5 inch screen offer 1080x1920-pixel resolution, the display is very sharp and watching videos or playing games on this device will surely be a treat.

Asus ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) is powered by 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor at 2GHz with incorporated Adreno 506 graphics, along with 4GB LPDDR3 RAM. It has inbuilt storage of 64GB which can be expanded up to 2TB with microSD cards. With the device you can also get 100GB of free cloud storage space for a period of two years, which Asus is providing in alliance with Google.It has a hybrid SIM slot that extends support to one Nano-SIM plus one Micro-SIM or microSD card.

It has 3000mAh battery non-removable battery with fast charging facility. The device has 16MP main camera backed by f/2.0 aperture, dual-LED real tone flash and 6P Largan lens. For selfie, it has 8-MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Camera

Asus ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) camera is speedy and simple to use. It offers a range of camera modes to choose. Its HDR mode helps in expanding the vibrant range and improves detail from the superior contrast scenes; whereas the Low Light mode improves light sensitivity to offer apparent and dazzling low-light shots. Asus has worked a lot to make the camera more user friendly and result oriented, and we can say that the company has succeeded in doing so.

Performance

ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) can easily handle multi tasking without any lag. Switching between apps, using multiple apps, playing games, watching videos; all come with a certain ease and smooth flow. Its 3000mAH battery is capable of lasting for 13 hours and 45 minutes under mix use. Those who have a minimal use can easily make it last for 2 days.

Verdict

Costing Rs. 27,999, Asus ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL) is in direct competition with OnePlus 3, which has already got pleasing response from the users and is highly recommended. Asus ZenFone leads similar range devices in terms of display and design. It would be interesting to see how it will fare in the Indian market, where people are more inclined towards budget devices.
