Asus ZenFone Max - Smartphone With A Larger Battery Life 5000mAh battery

New Delhi, Tue, 14 Jun 2016 NI Wire

Ever since the dawn of smartphones – all we have been looking for is a device that doesn't shut down on us before we hit the sack every night.

In a bid to meet the increasing demand for devices with more battery life, Asus has launched the ZenFone Max. Costing Rs. 9,999 - this low mid-range smartphone is noticeable by its large 5000mAh battery.

So is ZenFone Max the energy competent Android smartphone we actually need? Let's check it out in our review.

The Outer Appearance

Like all other Asus smatphones, ZenFone Max is also backed by the artistic formula which makes Asus phones instantly decipherable.

It's available in two colors: black and white. Device with white color has a smooth finish at the back, whereas the black comes with leather-like texture. ZenFone Max has a round gold plastic strip that run along the sides. At the top it has a 3.5mm socket while at the bottom you'll find the Micro-USB port. The screen is a 5.5-inch 720x1280 pixel thing.

Strangely, the device comes with a 1A/5V charger that is quite scarce for a phone with such battery size. It takes around five hours to get completely charged up from zero to 100 percent – so, if you're considering to buy ZenFone Max, opt for a high speed charger.

Specifications and Software

Asus ZenFone Max has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and dual-SIM connectivity. The primary SIM supports 4G connectivity, whereas the secondary is restricted to 3G connectivity. Its expandable storage supports microSD cards up to 64GB.

It runs Android Lollipop 5.0, and offers better user interface in terms of apps customizability and controls.

Camera

Max uses 13-megapixel camera and laser autofocus system with a 5-megapixel front camera. It is capable of recording 1080p video. The device offers bounty of camera modes and manual settings suitable for stills and video, as well as various effects like slow motion, time lapse, panorama and HDR.

Performance

Though a budget phone, Asus ZenFone Max is still an upright performer, particularly for the price. It has lesser problems pertaining to battery draining & heating – a common factor among most of the spartphones.
The key feature that makes Asus ZenFone Max so likeable is its battery life – which is all because of the, Snapdragon 410 SoC and general tuning of the device that help achieve as much usage time on a complete charge as possible. In general usage, the phone can run for three to four days on a full charge.

Our Verdict

In the recent times, we saw how Gionee and Lenovo tried to help users find smartphones with more battery life but Asus has edged them all by being the pioneer manufacturer to bring in a decent super-battery device at under Rs. 10,000.

The supplied charger is the only weakness with this device – but if you're looking for a budget smartphone with a longer battery life, ZenFone Max is definitely a buy!
