HTC 10 Review: Find Out if It's Worth A Buy

New Delhi, Wed, 25 May 2016 NI Wire

As 2016 is moving on, we are getting introduced with new smartphones every passing day. The latest joining the race for best smartphones 2016 is HTC 10 – which the company had launched to compete with the likes of Galaxy S7, Huawei P9 and LG G5.

HTC One A9 was the original non-Nexus phone to have Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and it certainly is no bolt from the blue that HTC 10 has it too.

So is HTC 10 the next big in the market? Well, this is what our review answers. Here check out the specifications of the device in details to know if this should indeed be your next big buy!

The Price

The device can be directly purchased from HTC at £569, which apparently is a bit more as compared to Galaxy S7. This price certainly makes it a higher bid than LG G5 and the iPhone 6S.

Look & Feel

HTC 10 has stuck to its patent design as seen in most of the older HTC devices, however; this one for sure brings in some changes here and there. The back offers similar look and feel like that of One M9 the only difference being the diamond cut chamfered border. This feature gives the device a two-tone effect and complements its design. Though the phone sides are 3mm only but it still appears to be a bigger and heavier device with it weighing 161g.

It has no front facing speakers but there is a BoomSound that too partially through a new frame on the bottom while headphone socket has got top slot. The device is available in carbon grey, topaz gold, camellia red, and glacier silver color ranges.

Hardware & Specifications

1. The Screen

HTC 10 has 5.2in Super LCD screen with Quad HD (1440x2560) resolution with 564ppi pixel density. Its display is simply bright but not as good as its competitors. Also, it display appears whites and blacks on grey side.

2. Processor & RAM

It is backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor powered by 4GB of RAM. However, this feature of it is similar to that of LG G5 but HTC 10 has a cold responsive screen.

3. Storage & Connectivity

It has a storage capacity of 32GB which is expandable through a Micro-SD card slot – it takes up to 2TB capacity cards. HTC 10 also supports Android's Adoptable Storage with the help of which the memory card can be viewed like internal storage.

As for connectivity, there are many options. It allows dual-band 11ac Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 and AirPlay support thus making it the original non-Apple device to have this connectivity option. HTC 10 Fingerprint scanner

4. The Fingerprint Sensor

This has come t be the primary addition and works quite faster – it takes only 0.2 seconds. With HTC 10, you can add nearly five fingerprints and can set app locks through Boost+app.

5. Battery Life & Charging

HTC 10 is backed by Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and using HTC's own technology, it's capable of lasting for an entire day with just 30 minutes of charging. However, the battery in HTC 10 still remains to be non-removable. It has 3000mAh battery which can only be charged through USB port as it provides no wireless charging.

6. The Cameras

As we've stated a number of time, camera is indeed the most important feature on a smartphone and HTC claims that HTC 10 has the best camera when compared to the other smartphones in the market. Dropping the resolution from 20Mp sensor which was there in M9, this device has 12Mp UltraPixel sensor. The device has large 1.55um pixels with larger f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilisation which is present on both front and back cameras, second-generation laser auto focus, and a dual-tone flash.

The Verdict

HTC 10 surely offers many features which are likable but despite a good looking built and design with attractive specs, it doesn't clearly stand out and prove to be tough competition. But overall, it's certainly a good phone!
