Is The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2016) Worth Your Money?

New Delhi, Tue, 24 May 2016 NI Wire

Samsung A series has always managed to seek attention for its incredible built and amazing features. And following the legacy is Samsung's 2016 edition of A series.

In contrast to its S series, the A series devices come with more affable and stylish glass design. The price ranges from $450 to $500, which makes Galaxy A9 more preferable over Samsung's top-shelf Galaxy S7. But that can be only said once we understand what exactly A9 has in offer.

So, let’s get started with our review of A9 (2016)

Design

Samsung A9’s design has become the talk of town and is indeed its USP. The device is available in three colors: gold, white and pink gold. Of these, gold and pink gold variants come with a black front. It has a metal side frame colors perfectly as per the three different variations. The built is strong and provides you the needed grip.

The buttons, mainly home, power and volume are easy to press. It has a fingerprint scanner present on the home button. The scanner is quick and highly responsive.  However, unlike S7 and S7 edge, it lacks the water resistance feature.

Display

The handset comes with a mammoth 6 inch display with AMOLED panel. It has 1080 x 1920 px resolution with pixel density of 367 ppi. Though the display is decent but the colors at times appear subdued when the brightness level is low.

Interface and Functionality

If you’re a thorough Samsung user, the device certainly hasn’t something that you may not have heard about Samsung devices. It has the most recent TouchWiz interface along with Android 5.1. It’s a little surprising to see how Samsung has not used Android 6 here which we believe should have been the case ideally.

Moving on, its user interface is rich and lively. It moves swiftly but at times tends to be rather jumpy and not as runny as software experiences seen on opponent products similar to HTC, Motorola, and Apple.

Processor and Memory

It has the fascinating Snapdragon 652 chipset, backed by octa-core CPU and Adreno 510 GPU. This makes it quite a powerful phone in comparison to the earlier launched Galaxy S6 and Note 5.

There’s a 3GB of RAM with 32 GB internal memory. And if you need more, the same can be expanded using a microSD card slot.

Camera

Coming to camera, it has a 13-MP primary camera with optical stabilization (OIS) and wide, f/1.9 aperture. For selfies, it has 8-megapixel front shooter.

The device indeed offers a great camera experience. It supports quick launch for camera, all you need to do is double click your home button, it even works when the phone is locked. By default, it will click images in 16:9 aspect ratio and 9.6-MP resolution. You can turn the same to 4:3 aspect ratio and 13 megapixels.

Battery Life

Like a mammoth screen, the battery size in the Samsung Galaxy A9 is 4000 mAh, which apparently powers the big size screen. The battery life depends on your phone usage; if you use it normally it would last for a day or two. But if your usage is in excess, it won’t last more than half day.

Conclusion

Though quite big in size, it does is an elegant device. Even the performance rating is good and it gives you a great user experience. However, there certain things that stand as loophole hear which basically include the big screen, even the screen colors lack the natural appeal, even the TouchWiz lacks the needed fluidity and at software front, it uses Android 5.1 instead of 6.

If we can rule out these, then Galaxy A9 (2016) is indeed a perfect buy!
