New Delhi, Thu, 08 Dec 2016 NI Wire

New Delhi, Dec 8: In a bid to make video calling more popular among Indians, as per what the company claims, Micromax announced its new range of Smartphones which are specially designed for the purpose.

Named as Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2, the devices are loaded with Google Duo, the simple video-calling app which is gaining much popularity. The phones are supported by 4G VoLTE connectivity and are packed with Reliance Jio 4G Sims, which are updated with the Happy New Year Offer giving free SMS, call and data usage till March 2017.

Shubhajit Sen, the Chief Marketing Officer, Micromax Informatics, stated, "At Micromax we thrive on our understanding of the Indian consumer, consistently deriving insights and delivering innovative products to the market".

Micromax Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 phones have a 2 MP front and 5 MP rear cameras and are reasonably priced at Rs. 4400 and Rs. 4990 respectively so that the customers do not feel the pocket pinch. The former model has 1600 mAh while the latter has 1800 mAh capacity of batteries. Both have inbuilt storage capacity of 8 GB which can be expanded via micro SD card and the RAM is of 1 GB.

If we look at the other specifications of the phones, they are operated by Android 6.0 Marshmallow and come bundled with 1.3 GHz of quad-core Spreadtrum processor. Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 have displays of 4-inch WVGA and 4.5-inch FWVGA respectively. The devices house dual-Sim card slots and the brand also boasts of them having metal brushed covers.

Speaking on the launch of the new device range the Chief Marketing Officer of Micromax Informatics said, "2016 has seen a marked slowdown in the long term trend of Feature Phones users shifting to Smartphones. Two barriers we identified were perceived high cost of data and a lack of a differentiated mass-use case. With the launch of the Vdeo range we have focused on these issues”.

He added “We believe that Video calling is as simple as making a voice call, in a stable environment, will be a strong use case especially in smaller towns. This feature, coupled with free internet connectivity with the pre-bundled Reliance Jio SIM is a compelling proposition that will accelerate the switch from feature phones to Smartphones."

The under-5000 gizmos have been launched in anticipation of capturing a substantial market share and by making a good hold among the economic buyers, who desire possessing cheap Smartphones and availing video-calling facility to connect with their loved ones.
