Prime Minister Paves a Convenient Way to the Char Dham with Inauguration of a Huge Highway Project, Slams Opponents and Hails BJP Government

To facilitate the transportation of the pilgrims of the Char Dhaam Yatra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation of the ‘all-weather’ roadway. Named as the Char Dham Highway Development Programme, the project boasts of 900 km stretch of roads for easy connectivity to the four major shrines of the Hindus.

“The Char Dham highway development programme will facilitate the construction of 900 km of highways connecting holy shrines of Uttarakhand”, the PMO had tweeted in the morning. It was further tweeted, “The project includes 10 meter minimum widening of existing National Highways & constructing 13 bypasses, 2 tunnels, 25 major bridges.”

The Char Dham Yatra refers to the annual religious trip to four major shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri which is said to cleanse one’s sins. The construction amounting to Rs. 2000 Crores has already been started under the plan which would supposedly render ease of travelling round the year to these four sites, as well as, to Sikh shrine Hemkund Saheb.

The PM arrived in the capital of Uttarakhand in the morning amid high security and was welcomed on the airport by Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Governor K.K. Paul and other dignitaries. After launching the project, he went in to address a Parivartan Rally at Dehradun’s Parade Ground which saw a huge turnout.

Dedicating the infrastructure programme to the Kedarnath victims who lost their lives during the flash floods in 2014, the PM said it is for the Hindus who have to arrive on the bank of the holy Ganga one day or the other. It is for those who want to bring their ageing parents to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Yamunotri and Gangotri to fulfill their wishes. He said that along with spiritual happiness, the connectivity would help in creating employment opportunities and thereby improving the economy and reducing the migration of the mountain people to the urban lands to earn their bread. He emphasized that people travelling to the four shrines needed to keep at least three extra days in their trip for the fear of landslides. With this enormous Rs. 12000 project, people would not have to compromise with their purpose by being tensed about dealing with future uncertainties. He ensured that the resources of the hilly region would get utilised to the fullest once the execution takes place.

The PM took a dig at other party leaders and said that laying stones without budget do not bring real development. While citing wisdom and non-political ambition as the reason for delay of this scheme, he showered praises on Nitin Gadkari for the conceptualisation of the huge project drawing ideas from many foreign roads which run through rugged, steep hills and taking help of many consulting agencies, to shape a solid pathway that do not suffer damage for at least a 100 year. He also boasted that people using the highway would remember Mr. Gadkari and would compare him to Shravan, who according to a Hindu legend became a carrier of his blind and deaf parents in the way to forty pilgrimage sites.

It was announced that two new schemes were in pipeline aimed at encouraging traders and consumers for using digital payments method. Also, an earnest promise of making availability of  electricity, gas connections and numerous jobs in villages was made to the public during the rally.

Mr. Narendra Modi did not leave this opportunity to glorify his party and lambast his opponents. He said that the move of demonetisation is a ‘Safai Abhiyan’ for cleaning the existing black money from the system and the entire black money will return to economy after the success of this cleanliness drive. He slammed the earlier government at every possible juncture of his speech saying it only neglected the needs of the common people.

The topic of flood scam was also raised to criticise the opposition party. His oration included that unlike people who shout to save the corrupt, his duty as a watchman is to protect the Indians.

Conveying his gratefulness to the citizens for their support in his note ban move, PM added that the countrymen need to get rid of the evil intentions (Kala Mann) too along with black money (Kala Dhan) and that his sudden strike helped in dealing with counterfeiting, terrorism, drug mafia and human trafficking at one go. He clarified that his rise to power, which happened due to the trust of people, is only for lighting lamps and cutting ribbons at inaugural events.

Bringing the issue of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, he assaulted the longest ruling Congress Government for not listening to the demands of the Army Jawans made since last forty years. He told the followers that the disbursement of Rs. 6600 has been done under the scheme and more will be rolled out soon.
