Sonia Gandhi was admitted in Ganga Ram Hospital today. She was suffering from viral fever. Ms Gandhi has missed most part of the ongoing Parliament Session.
Earlier in August she was hospitalized after falling ill during a rally in Varanasi. Varanasi is the parliamentary constituency of honorable PM Narendra Modi. She was airlifted from Varanasi with a broken hand as it got fractured after she fell. She was then hospitalized for several weeks. Ms Gandhi, aged 69 was discharged later on 14th August.
Sonia Gandhi, born in Italy is President of the Congress Party. Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi got married in 1968. After the assassination of her husband she decided to be away from Politics but she joined Congress on request of many Congress senior leaders.
She took charge of Congress from Sitaram Kesri in 1998. Congress won and formed government in Centre twice under her leadership. She is a Lok Sabha MP from Rae Barelly in Uttar Pradesh. In 2013 she was third most powerful women in Forbes list.
Congress top brass has met recently and agreed to promote Rahul Gandhi but a specific date is yet to be decided. Rahul Gandhi was made Vice President of the Congress in 2013. Ms Gandhi has been a vocal critic of the demonetization done by Centre. Her health is crucial as there are elections in five states during coming months.
