Martyred soldier cremated with military honours in Maharashtra

Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Nov 8 (IANS) The mortal remains of martyred soldier from Maharashtra, Rajendra Narayan Tupare, who fell to bullets in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir were consigned to the flames with full military honours at his native Karve village here on Tuesday morning.

Tupare was killed during heavy firing by the Pakistani Army on Indian Army posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri sector on Sunday.

Thousands of people from Karve and surrounding villages attended the funeral and paid their last respects to Tupare before the cremation, amidst cries of 'Rajendra Tupare Amar Rahe' 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.

Guardian minister Chandrakant Patil and other dignitaries also offered floral tributes to the departed soldier and wreaths were laid by several army officers and on behalf of various army units.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a tweet saluted the brave soldier and said the government is with his family in this tough time. The Maharashtra has announced compensation of Rs 1.50 million to the martyr's family.

Hailing from Karve village in Chandgad sub-district, Tupare of the 12th Maratha Light Infantry Battalion, is survived by his wife Sharmila and other relatives.

His mortal remains were flown shortly from Jammu to Sambra, near Belgaum by a service aircraft on Monday evening.

The body was brought by road from Sambra for the last rites to his native village which has plunged into grief since the past couple of days.

On October 30, BSF trooper Nitin S. Koli from Dudhgaon in Sangli was martyred while battling terrorists in Kupwara.

On September 18, four soldiers from Maharashtra were among 17 killed in the attacks on an army camp in Uri - Sandeep S. Thok from Nashik, Chandrakant S. Galande, Vikas J. Kudmethe from Yavatmal and Punjab Janrao Uike from Amravati.
