New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) It was a clear Monday morning with shallow fog dropping the visibility to 400 metres in the national capital, the weather office said.

"Visibility at 8.30 a.m. was 400 metres at Safdarjung area," an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.

"The sky will mainly remain clear during the day," the official said.

The humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 87 per cent.

As per the IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 14 degrees Celsius, the season's average. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius.

The smog situation during the day is expected to remain poor, the weather office added.

Thick smog have shrouded Delhi for the last few days. Levels of particulate matter - PM 2.5 and PM 10 - breached the maximum level of 500 across the national capital post Diwali.

Bursting of firecrackers, stubble burning in neighbouring states, dust from construction activities and vehicular traffic are some the reasons attributed to the sudden spike.

Sunday's maximum temperature settled at 30.2 degrees Celsius, one notch above the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 14 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season.
