CISF intensifies security at airports, Delhi Metro

New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) Security at all airports across the country as well as at the Delhi Metro has been intensified in the wake of the terror strike on an army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir and the resultant cross-LoC strike by the Indian Army, paramilitary force CISF said on Friday.

"We have intensified security at all airports across the country as well as the Delhi Metro. We took the suo motu action in the wake of the Uri terror strike and the surgical strikes," Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson Manjit Singh told IANS.

A total of 19 Indian soldiers were killed after a group of four suspected Pakistani militants of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist group stormed the at Uri army camp on September 18 morning. The militants were also killed in the attack.

Singh said the security had been increased specially on the airports in Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, as well as Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi.

Asked if the number of the CISF personnel has also been increased, he said: "The number of our personnel will be same. It can be increased as per the need. But, we have intensified other drives like checking and frisking of passengers and their baggages, and surprise checks."

"The sanctioned leaves of the CISF personnel deputed at airports and Delhi Metro have also been curtailed," Singh added.

Apart from combing operations, patrol of dog squads and bomb detection teams have also been increased, he said.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a GMR Group-led consortium which manages and operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), said that security has been beefed up.

"The security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport has been enhanced, keeping passenger safety in view," said a DIAL spokesperson.

"Both the CISF and the Delhi Police are in the highest state of alert. Random vehicle and passengers checks are being carried out by the security agencies to prevent any untoward incident. All passengers are requested to extend their cooperation with the security agencies during this festive season," he added.
