East Delhi Mayor, Ms. Meenakshi today planted saplings in Shahdara (South) Zone. The Mayor said the plantation drive aims at making the East Delhi greener that helps control pollution. Ms. Meenakshi informed that saplings are being planted in this season so that a majority of them survive. She planted not one but many different kinds of saplings.
On this occasion, MLA, Mr. Om Prakash said trees need to be guarded and nurtured the way children are taken care of as they are the basis of a healthy life. He further said that people need to know importance of trees in our life. “Surroundings play an important role during the growing years of children. It affects their physical and mental fitness. Therefore, this effort of the East Corporation to make area greener is laudable,” he said.
Area councillor, Mr. G.S. Raju said the Corporation is trying its best to make Delhi greener. He informed that there are fewer trees in Preet Vihar and the target is to have one tree at every 30 feet. He further informed that name of the person who has planted the tree will be written on the tree-guard of that tree.
