As part of the Congress Party's ten-day people’s agitation against the worsening power and water situation in Delhi, demonstrations and dharnas were held at the Babu Ram School Chowk in Shahdara and Preet Vihar Petrol Pump in East Delhi in the morning and Sant Nagar Chowk, Rani Bagh in North Delhi, in the afternoon today. The demonstrators created chakka jams at the Shahdara main road and Britannia Chowk, and the effigies of Union Power Minister Shri Piyush Goel and Shri Arvind Kejriwal were burnt.
The common people also joined the Congress party’s agitations against the power and water crisis in large numbers to support the agitations being continuously held by the Congress party. The people of Delhi, fed up with the power and water shortages, held massive demonstrations at West Delhi’s Bindapur, Indira Gandhi Park and Mohan Garden and created traffic jams. The women demonstrators from Bindapur’s DDA Flats were arrested by the police.
The demonstrators were addressed by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Arvinder Singh, MLA and chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma, Ajit Choudhary and Sardar Abhijit Singh Gulati. Thousands of local residents also participated in the demonstrations held under the leadership of former Delhi Minister Dr Narendra Nath, ex-MLA Naseeb Singh, Congress leader Kamal Kant Sharma and Pankaj Kochar. On the occasion, Shri Arvinder Singh and Shri Mukesh Sharma said due to the ineptitude and irresponsibility of the BJP-led Central Government, the power and water crisis has worsened in Delhi, and people were being forced to wait endlessly outside their houses for water tankers.
Arvinder Singh said the manner in which the common people were strongly supporting the agitations of the Congress workers even under searing heat has proved that BJP’s promise of good days has only remained as a pipe dream. He said residents were being sent inflated power and water bills, and the power situation in Delhi had become far worse than in UP and Bihar.
