In a sudden development in the changed political scenario, the Uttar Pradesh governor BL Joshi resigned from his post today. However as there is a speculation, many more governors appointed by the previous UPA government is all set to resign from their posts.
The resignation has been come amid reports that a number of governors appointed by the previous UPA government had been asked to quit.
According to sources, it has been said that it might be that governors have been said by the government to do so or resign and it is also in air that it had called up seven governors and asked them to put in their papers.
Meanwhile, B L Joshi (78), a retired Indian Police Service officer resigned from his post. Joshi was the Uttar Pradesh governor since 2009 and had enjoyed a good relationship with two successive chief ministers, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav.
Meanwhile it has been said that former chief minister of Delhi and governor in Kerala, Sheila Dikshit has refused to resign from her post.
According to sources, Sheila Dikshit declined to comment on media reports that the Centre had sounded the governors appointed by the previous UPA government to step down.
Needless to say, Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fuelling rumours that she would quit soon. There is a speculation that those other governors who have been nudged to quit may include MK Narayanan (West Bengal) and Kamla Beniwal (Gujarat).
