Lisa Ray to meet the pope (Movie Snippets)

New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) Canada-born Indian actress Lisa Ray is visiting Vatican City to meet the pope.

The actress, who was applauded for her work in "Kasoor" (2001), will meet the pope Tuesday.

"Visiting the Pope today. It's just a coincidence that the tastiest gelato is in the Vatican...," she tweeted.

The 42-year-old was diagnosed with cancer of the bone marrow in June 2009. Later in 2010, the actress opted for a stem cell transplant and announced her treatment was successful.

Shabana Azmi to be in Amsterdam for BRAC

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi will head to Amsterdam to attend an international board meeting of BRAC.

The meeting of the international development organization based in Bangladesh will take place June 9 to June 11.

"Will be in Amsterdam 9-11 June for international board meeting of BRAC. Trying to trace Sita Inge and Marijke de Vos whom I met long ago," Shabana tweeted.

The actress, a member of BRAC, has campaigned for various issues, particularly social justice, rights of women and plight of slum dwellers. She is a leading advocate of AIDS awareness in India.

Bhandarkar applauds Narendra Modi's speech

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar expressed gratitude towards Narendra Modi, who will take oath as the country's new prime minister May 26, saying none of the leaders ever made their accountability so clear.

Modi was Tuesday elected leader of the BJP parliamentary party in the central hall of parliament, paving the way to his becoming the prime minister. He gave a long speech there after his elevation.

The filmmaker was amused with Modi's speech and took to Twitter: "An emotional speech by Narendra Modi saying he will present his report card to the nation. No Prime Minister has ever made his accountability so clear."
