Chennai, May 9 (IANS) India's premier Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) will showcase its recent achievements in chemical sciences on National Technology Day on Monday, a statement said.
"The pursuit of excellence and relevance in chemistry research has also resulted in several industrial spin-offs and import substitute materials and technologies," said the BARC statement issued Friday.
The research mandate of chemical sciences in BARC is wide ranging and encompasses fundamental chemistry, energy, health, environment, social applications and industrial spin-offs.
In the nuclear energy programme, chemistry plays a pivotal role starting from ore processing, fabrication, characterization and quality control of nuclear fuel, water chemistry of nuclear reactors, recovery of usefully radio isotopes, management of nuclear waste and others, the statement said.
The chief guest for the function will be internationally renowned chemist C.N.R.Rao, who was recently awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
