Maoists in Chhattisgarh threaten people to boycott polls

Bastar, (Chhattisgarh), Sun, 30 Mar 2014 ANI

Bastar, (Chhattisgarh), Mar. 30 (ANI): Maoists in 'red corridor' in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh held a Jan Adalat asking villagers to boycott polls.

The red rebels held a rally in the dense forests of the region and threatened the people against voting.

Not only the villagers, the politicians and candidates are also under the constant threat of Maoists, who are braving the situation and are working to encourage people to vote.

"There work is to oppose democracy and our job is to keep democracy intact and for that we have planned and all our workers are working towards it. And by not meddling much whatever can be done to keep the democratic system strong, our workers are doing that," said Bharatiya Janata Party, Vidya Sharan Tiwari.

A big challenge being faced by security officials is the holding of polls without any troubles or disruptions.

Police said that they are gearing up to form a strong defence against the rebels and prevent any unwanted incident to happen.

"Maoists disrespect elections all the time. They do not trust the system and declare opposing it. The election will be held according to the law and we have prepared very well for it. We are hoping that the elections will happen without any disruptions," said Assistant Superintendent of Police, S.R. Salem. (ANI)
