Microsoft introduces 'free' Office app for iPhone, Android

Washington, Fri, 28 Mar 2014 ANI

Washington, Mar. 28 (ANI): Microsoft rolled out its much-preserved Office suite to iPad, breaking the shell of Windows-only exclusivity, but now the company has also announced that the new versions for iPhone and Android smartphones would be available for free.

The description note of Office apps for iPhone and Android state that the apps are free for 'home use.'

According to Tech Crunch, this suggests that Microsoft still plans to require that businesses have a paid Office 365 subscription.

On Thursday, Microsoft unveiled its Office for iPad, which allows Office suite use, but requires an Office 365 subscription to unlock editing capabilities.

With new CEO Satya Nadella in-charge, the software maker has been driving its focus on reaching out on all widely used platforms and not restrict to Windows-only systems for its popular Office suite. (ANI)
