Google sees 120% jump in govt. snoop-data requests over four years

Washington, Fri, 28 Mar 2014 ANI

Washington, Mar. 28 (ANI): Google has reportedly revealed that the number of government requests received for user data has shot up 120 percent over the last four years.

The search giant has started publishing transparency reports since the mega NSA leaks, and has said that it has seen tremendous increase in the requests for information.

According to Tech Crunch, the latest transparency report includes the number of requests made during the second half of 2013 and although Google's total user base has expanded well over that time, the government was making more requests than ever before.

It revealed that the percentage of requests that Google furnished data for has declined even as the total number of requests has increased.

The percent of providing info back now sits at 70 percent, instead of the 75 percent plus that Google used to reward with info when it first started reporting its compliance rate, the report added. (ANI)
