Four Bodo militants nabbed in Assam

Guwahati, March 22 (IANS) Four Bodo militants have been arrested and a large cache of arms and ammunition seized in Assam as police stepped up operations ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, an official said Saturday.

Three members of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were held in Baksa district Saturday while one was arrested Friday night from a hotel in Guwahati.

An AK-56 rifle, a magazine, seven rounds of ammunition, three grenades, two detonators and some extortion notes were found in the possession of the three arrested in Baksa, while a 9mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition were seized in Guwahati.

Police arrested two militants from Kosukata village. The third was also arrested from the same village based on the confession of the other two, said Inspector General of Police (BTAD) L.R. Bishnoi.

This was the second recovery of arms in less than a week in the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD). On Tuesday, 26 grenades, 19 detonators and explosives were seized from two people at Kalajhar village.

The two persons were linkmen of the NDFB's anti-talk faction, Bishnoi said.
