Bangalore, Feb.16 (ANI): In a show of solidarity for Arunachal student Nido Tania, who was allegedly beaten at South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area last month, riders in Bangalore on Sunday held a bike rally and protested against racial discrimination.

The Bangalore-based Brotherhood of Bulleteers Motorcycling Consortium (BOBMC) organised the rally, which started from town hall and covered a distance of 14 kilometres.

Tania was allegedly beaten at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi on January 29 as he got into a brawl with local shopkeepers while reacting to a verbal racial slur and taunts on his hair style. The next day, when he didn't wake up, his friends rushed him to AIIMS, where he was declared dead.

Organiser of the rally, Ajit, said three more clubs took part in the ride.

"Bikers expressed their concern through ride and as part of initiative from BOBMC, we have organised solidarity ride. This time we have three clubs from Bangalore and individual riders are participating in this programme for expressing solidarity for the northeast people who are racially discriminated," said Ajit.

Riders were holding placards stating slogans against racial discrimination.

"As you all can see we are gathered here today for a cause and that cause is against racism which is going all across the country. We have been seeing the news that has been coming up from Delhi. The death of our own brother from Arunachal Pradesh and day-on-day basis there has been murder, rape and lot of discrimination against all the northeastern and also people from all across the world," said Vikram, a participant.

Family of Tania had met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday and submitted 10-points memorandum, as they demanded justice over the racial attack.

The postmortem report of the victim was released on February 10, which stated that Tania died of injuries inflicted upon the head and face by a blunt object. (ANI)
