Ghanchakkar review: It's not intelligent this time by Rajkumar Gupta

New Delhi, Fri, 28 Jun 2013 NI Wire

Star cast: Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, Namit Das and Rajesh Sharma.

Director: Rajkumar Gupta

After making intelligent films like 'No one Killed Jassica' and 'Aamir', director Rajkumar Gupta is now back again with his latest comedy thriller "Ghanchakkar" releasing this Friday. Starring Hashmi and Vidya Balan in the lead roles, Ghanchakkar is a courageous effort by the director to alter the traditional comic dimensions of Bollywood with some wacky humor to entertain the viewers.

Sanju (Emraan Hashmi) decides to leave crime and before that, he wants to execute the last and big one; a bank robbery to secure his future. He meets his two partners Pandit (Rajesh Sharma) and Idris (Namit Das), with whom Sanju becomes successful in the robbery. Now, the trio decided to meet after three months for sharing the looted money and Sanju is given the task of hiding the money. But after three monts, when both the partners come for the money to Sanju, he refuses to recognize them as he suffering from strong amnesia after a big accident. Both hs partner now decides to stay with him until he revives his memory. There they encounter Sanju's vociferous and sartorial wife Neetu (Vidya Balan) and tolerate her terrible cooking.

Talking about the performances, Emraan Hashmi is no more just a serial kisser but has improved to a great actor, who has portrayed the character of a angry, frustrated and suspicious Sanju effortlessly with a great ease.

After her applauding performance in The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, Vidya can never be underestimated as she steals the show in Ghanchakkar also with her absurd gesticulation and weird dressing sense. She has proved once again that, she can fit anywhere.

Other actors Namit Das and Rajesh Sharma have complimented each other quite well with some notorious and perfect comic timing.

But it is not always easy to make an unconventional film when it comes to comedy and director Rajkumar Gupta has missed it too in the script. So, a more could have been done in the movie to make it better. But still if you are a Emraan or Vidya Balan's fan.... The movie is for you.
