The Union Cabinet proposed the Marriage Laws (Amendment) Bill to a Group of Ministers on Wednesday.
The referred law is about woman's right to marital property in case of divorce.
Finance minsiter P. Chidambaram, while talking to the media about the issue said different opinions had been expressed and the matter was referred to the GOM for a convergence of views.
The Ministry of Law and Justice had suggested that a woman be given a share in residential property of the husband, including inherited and inheritable premises, in case of a divorce.
Chidambaram said the Group of Ministers has been asked to overview one or two clauses of the proposed law in next few days.
After that, the Bill will be sent back to the Cabinet for a fresh assessment.
