Death toll in Thursday evening's building collapse in Shil Phata area in Maharashtra's Thane district has risen to 29 as rescuers scrambled through the night to save people feared trapped under the debris.
Police spokesperson Digamber Jangale said 59 people have been injured.
Friday morning, rescuers extricated 5 minors alive but injured from the debris, as hundreds of onlookers cheered the rescue effort.
The survival of the children was seen as something of a miracle, as they were recovered nearly 12 hours after the building crashed.
The incident took place at 6.30 pm on Thursday when an under-construction building collapsed.
Fire tenders and medical teams were rushed to the spot immediately.
The injured were admitted to hospitals including Thane Civil, CSM Civic hospital at Kalwa, Kalsekar hospital in Kalwa, while at least 8 people who are in critical condition have been shifted to Sion and JJ Hospital.
Police have lodged cases against the developers of the seven-storey building, Salil Jamadar and Khalil Jamadar, who are reported to be absconding along with their families.
Officials said that the building was raised within four months, and has been functional since December. So it stood barely four months.
As a precautionary measure, another adjacent building also developed by the Jamadars was evacuated on Thursday night.
