Industrialists laud water storage tank in Pulwama

Pulwama, Sat, 21 Dec 2013 ANI

Pulwama (J-K), Dec.21 (ANI): Industrialists and residents in Pulwama District have praised the state government for beginning to construct an overhead water storage tank to resolve the problem of acute water scarcity.

The water tank with the capacity of two lakh gallons is expected to solve 90 per cent of the water problem of the area.

In order to boost the private industries sector and provide them with the basic facilities, the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) has started the construction of the tank.

"This water storage tank was badly required as there is constant water crisis in the region. If this two lakh gallon water tank functions, it will end at least 90 per cent of the water problem faced by the region. Water is available here but they stop the supply for three to four hours, everyday. After the tank is made we will not face any problem so far as water scarcity is concerned," said an industrialist, Shabir Khan.

The small scale industries have suffered due to the scarcity, but with the construction of this water storage tank, they are hoping for unlimited supply.

"This comes under basic infrastructure facility. We supply water and pipes are laid out in the area so this will now cater to the water requirements of all the upcoming units (industrial units) in the area. Its capacity is two lakh gallons and is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2014," said a unit holder looking after the construction, Mohammad Iqbal.

The village of Lassipora where the construction is taking place is known as the most developed industrial estates in the Valley and has some 40 industrial units operating here.

The state government is keen on promoting the private sector industries in the Kashmir Valley where industrialists have been driven away due to fear of militant attacks, which are common in the region. (ANI)
