Kolkata, Nov 4 (IANS) With a week left for the 19th edition of Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) to start, India's second oldest film festival has gone digital courtesy a special mobile application that will provide detailed information to film buffs about screenings, its organisers said Monday.

To make it an inclusive affair, screenings via mobile vans have also been organised in five different pockets of the city. Also, the organisers are taking the fest to the streets this time with flash mobs and movie mobs lined up.

A bouquet of 189 films from 63 countries, spanning eight days beginning Nov 10, will be screened across 13 venues in the city. The gala affair will witness around 3,000 delegates and 24 international guests, including Israel filmmaker Amos Gitai who will also deliver a masterclass.

To ease the experience of the festival, its organisers have designed an app that will give directions to the venues, entire schedule and information on last year's event as well.

"It is a user-friendly app to help out with the details. One can also connect to the social networking sites," KIFF director Yadab Mandal told mediapersons here.

In the run-up to the event, a special canter was flagged off Monday from the state-run theatre Nandan to promote the festival. It will travel throughout the city and encourage people to participate in movie-based quizzes and a graffiti board will display people's opinion on the KIFF.

The event is scheduled to be inaugurated by megastar Amitabh Bachchan here, and it would be graced by a number of luminaries including superstar Shah Rukh Khan - also the state's brand ambassador as well versatile actor Kamal Haasan.

Late filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh's unreleased film "Taak Jhaank" (Sunglass) will be screened for the first time in the inaugural ceremony of KIFF.

Creative dancer Sukalyan Bhattacharya will showcase 100 years of Indian Cinema through his choreography at the opening ceremony, while actress Sharmila Tagore will deliver the Satyajit Ray Memorial lecture Nov 14.

Filmmakers from foreign nations will participate in interactive sessions and panel discussions during the festival too.
