Samajwadi national executive meet venue changed

Uttar Pradesh,Politics, Wed, 04 Sep 2013 IANS

Lucknow, Sep 4 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party has shifted the venue of its national executive meet from Haridwar to Agra, as the situation in Uttarakhand was "not conducive" after the floods in June that killed hundreds of people, a party leader said.

During the meet, party leaders will brainstorm on the strategy for the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for 2014. The dates for the meet have not been announced yet.

The national executive was to be held in Haridwar Sep 10-11.

Party's national general secretary Ram Asrey Kushwaha said the decision to shift to the Taj city was taken as the situation in Haridwar was not conducive after the natural disaster.

"Keeping this in mind, we have now shifted the venue to Agra and the dates will be announced shortly," Kushwaha told IANS.

He said that initially the meet was to be held in Haridwar on a special request of the Uttarakhand unit of the party.

During the meet, the party is also likely to explore its chances in the forthcoming state assembly polls in Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

With the party eyeing the "king maker" role after the 2014 polls, party insiders say the Agra executive would be very significant as the party is on its back foot as its 18-month-old regime in Uttar Pradesh has been marred by communal riots, poor law and order and accusations against its ministers.
